You may think that custom printing needs to have a lot of flashy colors in order to have an impact. Sure, a multicolor takeout bag, for example, may get noticed by some, but it’s not always the best route. Sometimes simple is best. And when it comes to custom branded food packaging, single color printing can be your best friend.

Impact

Think about it, how many colors is the Starbucks logo? How about Target’s logo? They are only one color and they are instantly recognizable. When you get too many colors involved with your logo, it can become difficult for people to really remember it or know it when they see it. When someone sees the Coca-Cola logo, they know immediately what brand it is. In fact, the marketing team at Coke may have influenced how we envision Santa Claus today.

Focus

Sticking with one color allows your customers to focus on what’s most important: the product behind the logo. Without the dizzying distractions of six different colors, people are able to focus on just the brand and what it means to them. Do you represent quality product? How about great customer service? These are the things that will come to mind when they are able to focus solely on your brand.

Price

This may come as no surprise, but in most cases printing one color is less expensive than printing multiple colors. Opting for one color is a great way to keep cost down while still investing in your brand. In fact, sticking with one color printing also allows for, in most cases, a lower minimum quantity to print. This allows you to test the waters with a small quantity order to see if it’s the right choice for you.

As we often say, printed packaging is like a walking billboard. Why dilute a striking logo with a variety of different colors when simplicity can have a bold effect. Still not sure? Give our Packaging Advisors a call to learn more. They can help you decide what type of printing, and on what item(s), is going to have the best overall effect on your business. Love is in the air! We recently added several hot new items to our inventory and they are definitely crush-worthy. It comes as no surprise, then, that these sweet additions are gaining popularity. Just take a look at what we have in store now.

Divided Meal Prep Containers – New Lid!

Three Compartment food container

Don’t you just love when a good thing gets better? That’s what we’re seeing with our new two- and three-compartment plastic food containers that now feature a divided lid. It’s such a simple adjustment that was made to the original lid but boy does it make a huge difference. Now you can ensure that each compartment is sealed tight and won’t leak from one compartment to the next. Now you can add a side of sauce without fear of it mixing with the rest of the meal when it’s not supposed to.

4 and 6 Pack Bottle Carriers

There’s something about a good, clean design that we just can’t resist. That’s why we now carry these sturdy, yet sleek, bottle carriers. Available as a 4 pack and a 6 pack, these carriers are ideal for beer, but can easily be used for olive oil bottles, specialty sodas, or even beauty products in 12 ounce bottles. Choose natural kraft or black, or stock both and let your customers choose which one they prefer. Increase your product’s value by adding your company’s logo to these carriers.

Compostable Grab-n-Go Containers

You already know that we intentionally do not carry Styrofoam products, but did you know that we’re always looking for more eco-friendly options? Case in point, our new compostable take out containers. The container bases are made from compostable can fiber and do not contain plastic. These are great for grab-and-go meals, prepared salads, and they also work perfectly as burrito bowls.

We love to look ahead and take a guess at what will become popular food trends. While there’s no scientific way for us to do this, we have a pretty solid way to research: eat everything! After a great deal of wining and dining, we’ve come up with a few good guesses as to what will be popular in the food industry next year.

After careful consideration (i.e. lots and lots of food), we picked a few of the food trends we expect – and hope – to see flourish in 2019.

Eat your veggies!

More vegetarian and vegan options

Who says a carnivore can’t enjoy a good, hearty vegan meal? We’ve seen restaurants and cafes popping up around the country that boast menus completely free of meat and, in some cases, free of any animal byproducts. Some of the most popular menu items you’ll see are meat alternatives, like the Impossible Burger. Take it from us, this trend shows no signs of stopping, and we’re a-ok with that.

Make great meals at home.

Delivered meal kits with more options

Nowadays there’s a meal kit for everyone. Today we’re seeing a bevy of subscription box options, and all with one thing in common: they can be delivered directly to your door. We anticipate seeing this trend continue, with even more options becoming available.

Locally-sourced ingredients surge in popularity.

Food with a purpose

More and more, we’re seeing chefs put their values right on the dinner table. In some cases it’s farm-to-table food that’s locally sourced. There are also more diet-centric eateries than ever before. There are a growing number of places where you can pop in and grab a quick but healthy (or gluten-free, or low carb, or high protein) meal on the go.

What do you think we’ll see in 2019? Let us know, we’d love to hear your predictions!

In an age where online shopping becomes more and more prevalent, it’s an unfortunate fact that packages are getting stolen from front porches around the country. The holiday season can see a surge in deliveries and, as a result, a rise in robberies. Fear not, there are several effective ways to avoid having your goodies swiped.

Ship your order to your work

This is the simplest, most cost-effective way to ensure that your packages are delivered safely. This way they don’t sit outside, unattended for hours on end while you’re not home. As an added bonus, shipping to a commercial address rather than a residential address will result in cheaper shipping rates. It’s a win-win!

Security cams

There are many different options out there when it comes to security cameras. They range in price and ability. Some allow you to stream live video of your porch from wherever you are. And, if someone does run off with your package, there is documented evidence that can be used when filing a claim. In many cases, this helps you get your refund faster.

Sign up for delivery alerts

Sure, a delivery alert won’t guard your packages, but it will help keep you updated, and knowledge is power! Even making sure that you have your tracking number so that you can keep an eye on your order’s journey is a proactive way to keep deliveries safe.

Know the terms and conditions

And speaking of refunds, make sure you’re well versed in the company’s policy on stolen items. Some companies and artisan vendors will state on their website that they are not responsible for orders stolen after the delivery has been made. That being said, you should still contact the original shipper. If they can’t help you, it’s possible that your credit card issuer can.

Unfortunately, there’s no guaranteed way to keep packages safe. But being proactive and well-informed will do wonders this holiday season and all year round!

Whether you get your custom printed items from us or from a competitor, you may have noticed recently that turnaround time for printed items has gotten longer. The extended lead times are frustrating, of course, but we find it’s helpful to understand why they occur.

TIMING

The lead-up to the holiday season is without a doubt the busiest time of year for production plants. So many businesses are gearing up for seasonal shoppers and diners, so they’re getting their packaging ready now. That type of large influx can, of course, create a bottle neck in the process.

DEMAND

For starters, there has been a shift in demand. Many customers who used to buy plastic bags are making the shift to paper ones. Some do so in an effort to be more eco-friendly while others are required to by new state laws. There has been a steady increase in the need for paper, and right now we’re seeing longer lead times across the board as a result.

TRENDS

In the last few months we’ve noticed a shift in customer preferences. More and more people are intentionally purchasing US-made products rather than importing. We believe part of that is a result of tariffs, and part of it is more eco-conscious. Buying American-made goods means shipping is minimal – compared to shipping overseas. That, in turn, reduces the customer’s carbon foot print.

It’s best to always plan ahead and be ready for delays, but that’s not always easy to accomplish – especially for busy business owners. That’s why we’re here to help. Our Packaging Advisors will always be transparent with you when discussing how long it takes to get a custom printed item. Give them a call at 888-321-2248 and they’ll be more than happy to answer all your questions!

You may think that custom printing your logo on bags, boxes or tissue wrapping paper needs to have a lot of flashy colors to have an impact. Sure, a multicolor takeout bag, for example, may get noticed by some, but it’s not always the best route. Sometimes simple is best. And when it comes to custom branded bakery or restaurant packaging, single color printing can be your best friend.

Impact

Think about it, how many colors is the Starbucks logo? How about Target’s logo? They are only one color and they are instantly recognizable. When you get too many colors involved with your logo, it can become difficult for people to really remember it or know it when they see it. Focus

Sticking with a one color logo allows your customers to focus on what’s most important: the product behind the logo. Without the dizzying distractions of various colors, people are able to focus on just the brand and what it means to them. Do you represent a quality product? How about great customer service? These are the things that will come to mind when they are able to focus solely on your branded logo.

Price

This may come as no surprise, but in most cases printing with one color is less expensive than printing multiple colors. This allows you to test the waters with a small quantity order to see if it’s the right choice.

Quantity

If you have a one color logo for your to go bags or boxes, you can usually have options to print smaller quantities.  In many cases it’s as few as 1,000 pieces. When printing multiple colors, it becomes much harder to print small quantities.

Product

Deciding which of your food service takeout or beverage packaging to print can be difficult. Your budget may require you to choose between multiple items you want to brand. Typically the most visible item is often the best choice. That is often a takeout bag, but not always. On the other hand, a bakery may be better off printing their cupcake boxes than their bags. The box is likely to stick around longer and be seen by more people.

A coffee shop will likely want the cups printed instead of a bag or box. There are a ton more cups leaving a coffee shop than there are pastry bags. A sandwich shop may want to have the wrapping paper printed because the customers see that in most cases. It can also serve to be a tray or basket liner with the printed logo.

We are here to help.

The holidays are quickly approaching and with them comes the swarm of hungry shoppers, spending the day checking off their shopping lists. While the retail world gets inundated with customers, the food industry keeps all the shoppers – and late-night retail workers – well fed.

Make sure your restaurant is well stocked with the disposable items and packaging that it needs to survive the crowds. Because let’s face it, it’s the most wonderful time of the year unless you have tired, hungry customers who are angry that your restaurant doesn’t have a takeout box for leftovers.

First thing’s first: boxes.

Whether it’s for a bakery, a restaurant, a deli, or café — having the right takeout box is crucial. Just imagine trying to cram half a dozen doughnuts into a pastry bag. It ain’t happening. Or try telling your customer that he can’t take home his leftover dinner because you’re fresh out of takeout containers. Trust us, it’s not a pretty sight.

Give them bags

Chances are your customers might already be juggling shopping bags filled with holiday toys and gifts. Make things easy for them by offering to bag their leftovers. Bakeries, make sure you’re fully stocked with bags that are large enough to carry your biggest boxes.

Pro tip: This time of year people lug packages and gifts to houses and parties. If your business offers a high-quality bag, chances are it will be reused during this process. This is a golden opportunity to get your company logo on the bag. Or as we like to call them, walking billboards.

Bottoms up!

It’s hot chocolate weather across much of the United States, and that means an increase in paper hot cup usage for coffee shops. Time to check inventory on cups of all size, matching lids, and paper sleeves. If you prefer to cut down on storage (and inventory duty) consider a double wall cup because it requires no jacket. When working with a double wall cup, you should consider putting your business name on there, too.

Think about it: what makes you choose one brand over another? What makes you even remember one brand while forgetting another? Companies that differentiate themselves from the competition are the ones that are remembered – and revisited – by customers. Many will say that it’s extremely difficult to get noticed in the food service industry, and they’re right. Thankfully we know a thing or two about how to stand out in a crowd.

Color

One of the easiest ways to set your business apart from others? Become a horse of a different color. Meal prep containers, for example, are available in more than just the standard black base and clear lid. Package your food in vibrant lime green, or eye-catching orange. Coffee shops that go against grain opt for nontraditional cup colors such as black or blue. Each customer that leaves the shop with one of these cups in hand helps to draw attention back to the business.

Quality

We’re all familiar with the standard plastic “Thank You” bags – but standard is not what you are. Graduate to the next level by switching to wave carry out bags. The flat bottom makes it easy to stack takeout boxes without them tipping and spilling. A wave-like handle with a circular cut out adds to the design, but also provides durability. For restaurants using a delivery service, the new Seal-2-Go bags are the best way to ensure food arrives to your customers hot and untouched.

Application

Sure, you can have top-of-the-line premium packaging but it means nothing if you’re using the incorrect item. Imagine a bakery that put their sweet, butter-heavy treats in a bag that was not grease resistant. Customers’ fingers would become covered in oil before they even got to the pastry. At the same time, you wouldn’t put a catering tray into a flimsy bag, you would need something that was up to the challenge. Simply by making sure you have the proper items for the application, you give yourself a leg up on the competition.

Of course, if you need any help figuring out what exactly the right items are – or if you’re ready to talk about putting your logo on your packaging – feel free to give us a shout. Our Packaging Advisors can be reached Monday through Friday (8:30 – 6 p.m. EST) at 888-321-2248. They’re happy to help you step up your game.

We care a lot about packaging, it’s what we do. We know the importance of having eye-catching boxes, bags, and even coffee cups. Even if when it’s off-the-shelf items and not custom printed ones, making an impression matters. That’s why we work so hard to stay up-to-date and on-trend with all the vibrant, one of a kind items that give our customers’ products that extra pop. Here are some of our latest and greatest additions.

Colorful coffee cup sleeves

We’ve had so many customers come to us asking for colorful coffee cup sleeves for their bakeries, cafes, and hotels. That’s why we made specialty, MrTakeOutBags exclusive Eco Sleeves in four colors: red, citrus green, chocolate brown, and timeless black. Coffee cup jackets are simple, functional items that many people wouldn’t give a second thought to. But we’re confident that you know better. You know that a quick switch to a red sleeve will separate your business from your local competitors – especially when people are walking through the neighborhood carrying your cup.

Citrus Green To Go Boxes

This takeout box marries two very popular trends: fast casual dining with a fresh, lime green design. Available in three sizes (snack, meal, and large combo meal), these containers are a no-brainer for many food service customers. As an added bonus, the boxes are made with push-in vent holes. Put these to use and you’ll see that fried food stays hot and crispy. Perhaps the best part is how they truly pop and get noticed. Use these to create a little buzz around your restaurant or café.

Resealable Kraft Coffee Bags with Valve

Sometimes we find a product that looks unassuming but its performance makes it stand above all the rest. Case in point, these coffee bags. A natural brown kraft allows for a neutral and eco-friendly look, while the built-in valve works as a one-way vent letting CO2 escape without letting air in. These must-have bags have a metalized PET liner that blocks light and air from entering, keeping your coffee beans fresher longer. Plus they have the extra touch of being heat sealable and created with tear notches set above the zipper.

Believe it or not, now is the time to start planning inventory for the holiday rush. How will you prepare for the upcoming season? We put together a list of pro tips to make sure you never run out of what you need most!

Review your packaging usage from previous years

The best way to know what you’ll need for this year is to review how much you used last year (and the year before, and the year before that). So first thing’s first: take a look at last year’s numbers to estimated this year’s projections.

Consider what new items you have this year

Have a great new product this year? Make sure you’ve got the right packaging for it. If you’re in retail, you might have a new item that requires a larger shopping bag. Food service folks with new menu features could find the need for a grease-resistant food tissue or cookie bags, to name a few.

Be realistic

As nice as it would be to stock up all at once, the truth is that sometimes it’s just not possible. Whether it’s because of limited storage space or budget, buying everything you need at once can be difficult for anyone. If you’re realistic and honest with yourself you can plan strategically so that you get the most bang for your buck without overloading your storage space.

Set reminders so you never run out

Have a simple plan in place that will remind you when to order. For instance, it’s time to restock when you are opening the last case of an item. Or maybe it’s time to reorder when there are three cases left in your stock room, depending on what the item is. Make sure to inform your staff so they let you know when you’re running low.

Ask a Packaging Advisor for help!

Of course, no one knows your business or supply needs as well as you, but our experts are here to help you get an accurate read of what’s needed. Just give them a call at 888-321-2248 from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST. They will be more than happy to assist you!
