The Science of Coffee Cup Sleeves
The idea behind the cup sleeves is all based on thermodynamics, specifically conduction. Conduction is the transfer of heat between substances. In general, higher density and more contact between two things results in higher potential for heat transfer. A coffee sleeve works to reduce the contact between your hand and hot coffee by providing a lower-density barrier. Layered corrugation achieves this by creating tiny air pockets between the cup and the outside of the sleeve, and since air is lower-density, it doesn't transfer heat as easily, which keeps the sleeve (and by extension your hand) cooler. We tested these sleeves with boiling water in a single wall cup, and the sleeve reduced the outer temp from a scorching 190° F to a toasty 140° F. (That 140° F Temp is warm, but will not result in burns.)Capacity
Our paper coffee sleeves will fit on standard 10 oz.,12 oz., or 20 oz. single wall coffee cups. Their flat (folded and glued) dimensions are approximately 4.75 inches X 2.5 inches. They are roughly cylindrical sleeves that fit tightly over handle-less paper coffee cups.
